We are experts in dead animal removal, and take our job seriously. When removing dead animals, we do a COMPLETE job — not only do we remove the dead animal from your home or yard, we also decontaminate the area, deodorize it, and dispose of the animal or cremate it. If you aren't sure whether the stench in your house is due to a rotting carcass or another reason, we can sniff it out with our noses from our years of experience. We remove dead raccoons, dead opossums, dead skunks, dead squirrels, dead birds, even dead dogs and cats. We frequently remove dead rodents from inside walls, because poison kills rats and mice, who die in your house. We completely solve your dead animal problem by taking these steps:

  • Sniff out the dead animal if it is somewhere in your home
  • When necessary, for example if the animal is in a wall or under your house, cut a hole to remove the animal
  • Remove the dead animal, safely and completely (and seal the hole if needed)
  • Finish the job by decontaminating and deodorizing your home
  • Properly dispose of the dead animal through incineration or other means
  • Prevent it from happening again by finding out how they got in your house

Dead animal carcass removal is specialty work. Sometimes the job is simple, such as a dead opossum in the yard, in which case we can simply wear our gloves and respirator mask, bag the carcass, and take it away for incineration. Sometimes this is more complex, such as when the dead animal is under a home crawlspace, under a porch or deck or shed. Or if the animal is larger, such as a dog or a deer. The most complex cases are dead animals inside the house. The animal may have died inside the attic, or down in the walls, or the duct work, or any other part of the architecture. You may have a bad smell in your home, and you're not even sure what's causing it. We've removed not just dead animals, but rotting food, bad mold, etc. We specialize in locating the source of the smell, and we very commonly cut a hole in the ceiling or wall to remove the animal. We remove every bit of the carcass, mop up the juices, vacuum the maggots, spray it and wipe it down with disinfectant, cleaner, and we repair the hole we cut. In some cases we use ozone machines to neutralize odor.

Tucson Dead Animal Tip:

Why do animals die inside a house?

This is an age-old question. Many types of animals can die in your home, and the reasons can vary. The leading cause of animals dying inside your home is that they become trapped and are victims of starvations /dehydration. Mice, rats, bats, squirrels, birds, raccoons, opossums, and the like can become trapped in your walls or fall into your chimney flu and become ensnared. With no way out, they soon die, and leave you with a problem. ! Sometimes a homeowner will repair a hole in t heir siding, or close an attic window, unintentionally block and animals way in/out. If there are young in your home and the mother cannot get back in to them, they will eventually die. Often a homeowner will use a one-way exclusion funnel, meaning an animal can leave, but not re-enter. If the animal has a nest in your home, those babies are sentenced to death.

Well-intentioned homeowners are another cause of dead animals in the house. We set out poison without thinking about where the sickened animal will go to die. Most likely, it will return to its nest…somewhere inside your home! Unwatched traps are another problem. Any trap set that you must be checked frequently, whether a live traps, or one that permanently dispatches the animal. Even a live trap can kill if the animal is left in a hot attic or without food and water for an extended period. Too often a snap trap will only mortally wound an animal, and it can escape to crawl off and die somewhere in your home. It is also important that you remember where you placed all the traps as well. You cannot check a trap for animals if you do not remember where they are placed in your home.

Often rodents like rats and mice will become aggressive towards each other over mates, young, or food and fight to the death. Although they have been known to be cannibalistic, they will not always eat their fallen opponent. Rodents have the need to chew constantly because their front teeth grow throughout their lives. Because of this trait, they can chew through wiring, electrocuting themselves, or choke on drywall or fabrics. Small animals, especially curious and awkward young, can fall into walls, your chimney flu, or other small spaces that they cannot climb out of and become trapped. If they cannot be rescued, they will eventually succumb to starvation and die there. Other accidental deaths suffered by feral animals in your home can include drowning, accidental injury, illness, old age, childbirth, infanticide, or being fatally wounded by a family pet.

Family pets can also die in the home for a number of reasons. The can succumb to illness or old age. They could suffer an accident and not recover. They could be victim of accidental poisoning, especially if you put our poison for nuisance animals and your pet finds the poison, or eats a poisoned animal.

No matter what the cause of death, remove the carcass from your home ASAP. A dead animal smell, breeds bacteria, and attracts bugs and other pests.
